12th February CritL: Andy Lodge
I need to keep sending off to lots of stock companies to get a lot of free samples. So I have examples for clients and as reference. Order Fedrigoni. and Garnett based in Otley.
Geometry of Pasta interesting iconography.
Hannah Logo needs to be more consistent, I need to make the pineapple less sharp edged or make the type more sharp to make them fit better together. Push the material promotion.
Séarlait... get the type together. do examples for this week on how it can be applied.... make business cards. Get promotion together.
It's a case of gathering content for Brief 3&4. And creating a identity and style. In brief 3 I need to start categorising content and get the publication layout sorted.
Brief 4 I need to get content and know what I am going to make. Info-graphics. Find a lot of facts.
Brief 5 we are waiting to meet the fashion team.... I feel this will take a while.
Brief 6 I need to contact people.
Brief 7 (The Mosses Centre) - Andy said I should layout the brief and know what I should do and leave the major designing till later when I have the other briefs underway.
Additional Brief 3: Geordan ECLECTIC, basically just do designing as it comes along.

Final Designs and Boards
These are our final boards we are submitting. I feel the concept is clear and definitely looks like it is possible and achievable.
Yearbook: Roles and Work Produced
We have spoke about this and we realise that creating the pitch in 3 days meant that not everybody ha d equal share at designing. For the yearbook we get we will split jobs evenly especially design.

Meeting with Kirsty and Chirs
Over Christmas I spoke to Chris about potentially doing the Yearbook together. I knew of other people didn't have a full group but having working with Chirs before, knowing he does the work and to a high standard made me want to speak to him first. Chris had spoke to Kirsty Fruin before the break and they were undecided on whether to go ahead or not. we were a 3 and needed another person to enter for the pitch.
7th
Chris spoke to Fred on Monday 7th and told us we could submit as a 3.
That night we went away and researched and thought of concepts separately.
Chris set up a Facebook group:

8th
The 8th we met at 10am for the whole day. We picked a concept and looked through all the sources we had blogged and brought in for inspiration.
Concept:
BA Graphic Design is a 3 year journey, so everything about the yearbook is around 3, utilising the rule of 3: 3 colours, 3 column grid, 3 sections, pretty much 3 everything.
We also decided we wanted a interesting font cover with a poster that can be separated into smaller buisness cards with all the graduates contact details.
9th
We (mainly Chris designed the boards) and Kirsty wrote all the annotation.
My work for the brief:

My Finals:
I designed the 14cmx14cm fold out pull ou attached to the cover of the publication. Unfolded it is 28cmx28cm, printed on the GFSmith 100gsm Frost White stock.
The Concept:
All of my concepts where about showcasing the colleges resources and our design work. We decided as a team that the graduates are the most important thing about this yearbook. So we need a double page spread each, and we should keep everything else to a minimum.

The Yearbook: The Concept and Info
The Concept
We have has 3 years at LCA. This is a 3 year journey. Within these years we have grown as designer and on this yearbook we celebrate the progression. 3 is a running theme throughout.
The Bind
We have decided to use an open bind and extended cover which will encase a pull out poster, this has been inspired from a photography magazine. The spine of the yearbook will use an exposed bind which will allow you to see each leaf of the book. It will also allow for maximum visibility of the images in the book as the spine will open to lye flat as not to cut any of the imagery out.

The Cover
The yearbook cover will be printed on GFSmith 270gsm Colorplan white frost paper stock. The colour on the cover will be UV spot varnished to create a difference in texture. The cover design will have an extended front cover which will open out to reveal a paragraph of information about the course and a encase a 28 x 28 cm square pull out contact poster. The pull out poster will include a photograph of each graduating student and their contact details. It will be held in place via two die cut slits at two of the corners and be slotted into place, the poster can then be removed and retained as a point of contact to all graduating students. The pull out poster will be printed on GFSmith 100gsm Colorplan white frost paper stock.
The Photography
There will be 3 photographs, each focusing on different aspects of the students work. the 1st would be a image to fill the whole page this would be a overall shot. The 2nd would be a image of the process. The 3rd could be a close up. the student can choose to be in one shot (recommended). Chris would sort out the Photography.
The Stocks & Ink
Using a GFSmith Colorplan swatch book we have decide to use:
-GFSmith 270gsm Colorplan white frost paper stock for the cover
-GFSmith 100gsm Colorplan white frost paper for the inner pages
-GFSmith 100gsm Colorplan white frost paper stock for the pull out contact poster
-GFSmith 270gsm Colorplan white frost paper stock for the cover
-GFSmith 100gsm Colorplan white frost paper for the inner pages
-GFSmith 100gsm Colorplan white frost paper stock for the pull out contact poster
We will also use a spot colour that matchs the Park Green.
Tutor Comments
There will be 3 1/3 pages of the 150gsm GFSmith Colorplan Park Green coloured paper stock staged throughout the yearbook, these pages will contain quotes from each of the tutors and be positioned between a black and white double page spread of images of college resources. The bright colour against the black and white imagery will hopefully allow the quotes to be the focal point whilst also providing additional information about the course via the imagery.
Stock and Colour Choice
We are going to propose to use GFSmith Colorplan stock throughout the yearbook.

Yearbook Printers
These are potential printers of our GD Yearbook. We have decided to propose TEAM as whilst on my placement at Box-Head* they said when using GFSmith Stock other printers get scared of using such expensive stock, where as TEAM use it all the time. We know this would be expensive but the budget is £2,500, and we have no amount of books to print on the brief.
