Context: Yearbook Research

I know Fred said don't just copy previous yearbooks. But seeing what past students have produced is a inside into what information usually goes into the Graphic Design Yearbook. Below is also research of general books used as inspiration.

2011 Yearbook Pitch
BA Hons Inter Dis 2012
BA Hons GD 2009
BA Hons GD 2011

LCA 2010
My favourite GD yearbook to date. It focuses on the students and has a fun theme throughout. I like how graduates are included in the photography with their work.

LCA photography 2012
A great photography yearbook... ideally I want to design for Photography, Inter Dis or Fine Art.

Best Fine Art Yearbook by far. I would also love to create something like this. Again tis is very focused on the students work.

UCA Farnham GD Yearbook 2011
I just thought this was unusual.

London College of Art Fashion Show 2007
Very professional and all about photography.

I love the colours used. I know it would be very expensive but to use a neon spot colour would be amazing.

I really like that this publication has a theme, but it is very geometric and trendy. I think something like this would work for Vis Com.

Heydays- Norway
One of my favourite design studios. I though we could arrange students by using there favourite tool on the index page. Defining themselves by their tools. But this would work better for Inter Dis or Fine Art... there are only so many tools you can use for GD, you couldn't have 30 Mac Books being chosen.

twopoints.net : Barcelona, Spain
Beautiful Colours and layout... I want a book.

Georgina Hill - Berlin, Germany
I thought we could use a different approach to just photography, trying to include craft somehow showing that we have a lot of options open to us.

P.A.R - Barcelona, Spain
Lovely type and great images combined creates a lovely piece of editorial design.

Paul Leichtfried - Berlin, Germany
My new favourite Designer.

Popular Lies About Graphic Design
A interesting book I like the concept and the non design outcome.

Eloi Montenegro - Spain
I love the use of duotone and the binding. I defiantly want to use this binding on a future project. He uses great photographs and a good grid, which at first seems random but you can tell from looking at all the photographs of the spreads that there is a clear grid for type and images.
By the same designer...
DAO Magazine: featuring photography from: Hendrik Kersten, Ryan McGinley and Renegim Mutevellioglu.
Beautiful photography nearly always makes great editorial design. I'm a big fan of Ryan McGinley and his work is amazing. I'd love to create a editorial based on photography, bu I would like it to be a part of the concept. Good photography = good layout.

I've loved this work since 1st year, bold colours and lovely overlaid printed colours. This works very well.
